Alas, it finally happened.
FB decided to ban HITF from its prestigious content selection.
It happened without warning about two days ago. I was simply scheduling posts and responding to comments on the handy-dandy Meta Builder thingy. But strangely enough, I kept getting an error message for anything I tried to do. It would say that I wasn’t authorized to respond to comments or schedule posts at that time and try again later.
I surf by the page and notice that it says that the “page has been unpublished”. I go to the admin section to find the reason why. Nada. Nothing. FB didn’t even give me the option to challenge or appeal the decision.
Oddly enough, it’s a blessing in disguise. It finally pushed me over the edge to get the ol’ HITF site back online and running again. I’ll be going back in time to get all the best stuff from the site’s past decade and a half. For those who don’t remember, I took the site down in 2016 right after the disastrous electoral outcome. I was so disgusted and broken by what happened, I didn’t want to blog about it or feel the need to comment on what was sure to be four years of complete shit and fucking mayhem. I kept our social channels on, however. To keep our awesome community of readers and commenters in the loop.
At the time, Facebook and Twitter were both operating fairly normally. I sought to get a subreddit up for HITF. But it wasn’t long before I found myself struggling to make time available to moderate it to Reddit’s satisfaction. Eventually, the subreddit got shut down before it could ever gain any traction. I also set up a telegram group and channel but had a hard time with content syndication to work among all the channels, so they essentially petered out.
I don’t need to elaborate on what happened with Twitter, do I? Even though HITF still has an active account on “X”, I spend little if any time there.
Facebook has been the last real working outlet for HITF for the past two years or so. And despite all the issues, censoring, post-flagging, repeatedly locking me out of my account, and much more, the page managed to thrive.
But I knew that time was running out for me on FB. It just felt like Zucky and his fucked-up algorithms were doing their damndest to destroy the reach and visibility of the page. Alas, my suspicions were confirmed last Friday, when the page simply ceased to exist in FB world.
And so, here I am. Restarting the Holes site, and getting things back on track. Yeah, yeah, I know. I should have done this YEARS ago. That’s all water under the bridge. The future is now. And as far as HITF is concerned, it’s gonna happen here.
So if you were one of our 13,000+ fans and followers of our page, all I can say is welcome. I hope you’ll stick around for a while.
I have some cool plans in the works, stay tuned! 😉
